Zooey Deschanel Dons Monique Lhuillier Dress To The Emmys 2011

American actress, musician, and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel sent fans buzzing when she presented at the 2011 Emmy Awards with Will Arnett in a pink, strapless, full-length gown with a red sash by Monique Lhuillier.

Zooey Deschanel might be nominated at next year's Emmys ceremony if her new television sitcom 'The New Girl' becomes a hit with Academy of Television Arts & Sciences voters. The show premieres on Tuesday, September 20 on Fox, though the pilot episode is free for download on iTunes and is streaming on Hulu.

Speaking of her new role, Zooey Deschanel told the Associated Press, 'I made a career being cast as smart-aleck-type characters, but I'm not sarcastic at all. I'm not ironic. I'm very sincere, generally. So this role played into a part of myself that I hadn't been using on the screen'.

Her character, named Jess Day, is an awkward 20-something who finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her and is forced to live on her own. Day moves in to an apartment with three male roommates and largely spends her time in the pilot crying in their living room while watching 'Dirty Dancing' and singing to herself.

The pilot was written by 'No Strings Attached' writer Liz Meriwether.

'Jess Day is a person who spent six years with the same guy. She's not a dater. And now she's being put out there in a way she's never been before. She's a little bit guileless and tries to see the best in people', Deschanel told the wire service. 'And you know THAT always goes wrong!'

'She's different from me in some ways', the actress said. 'But there's a part of myself that really is her: 13-year-old me was very much Jess - optimistic, excited all the time. A lot of these things that Jess is, I feel like are at my core'.

Zooey Deschanel has had a role on the television show 'Weeds' and appeared on an episode of the Fox drama 'Bones' alongside her sister Emily Deschanel, where she played a distant cousin of Emily Deschanel's character.

The actress recently starred alongside Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones and Elizabeth Banks in the comedy 'Our Idiot Brother' and has starred in films like 'Elf', '(500) Days of Summer' and 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.
